Build

a) Test: How does the user feel about the solution?

The next step is to test your prototypes out in the wild to get feedback. Remember the Research phase is important again here; you don’t just want to hear what they think, you want to see how they interact.

A useful lens with which to see what motivates your users is Bartle’s Taxonomy. Achievers tend to be motivated by completing and collecting. Explorers tend to be motivated by finding the boundaries and limitations of something. Killers like to dominate and disrupt. Getting a balance of these elements can help you design experiences for a broad range of user types.

Try to break your solution by disrupting various elements to see what happens and how to mitigate those disruptions.

b) Redesign: Good design is Redesign - if it works Build, if not go back to Purpose

Don’t be precious. Even if there’s deadlines that you’ll miss, you need to keep redesigning until you have a sustainable solution that works.

c) Build: What does the final version look like when refined?

When you’ve tested and refined until you are satisfied your solution is solid, then it’s time to build!
